Schools on the Riviera — The Drive-Time Truth

Thirty-seven campuses from Monaco to the western beaches, mapped by what actually governs a family's address on this coast: the drive, not the distance. Register verified school by school; drive bands computed on the road network; tuition from each school's published schedule.

Register checked 2026-07-18 · road-network drive bands · published tuition 2026–27

Method: the school register verified establishment by establishment on official sources; drive-time bands computed with Valhalla routing on OpenStreetMap; villa-market weights from DVF (DGFiP), individually qualified and estate-deduplicated. Enrolment specifics change — confirm seats, fees and bus stops with each school.

The thesis

Families choose the school first and draw the map second — clients of this office have relocated for a place at Mouratoglou alone. On the Riviera that map is treacherous: relief and three corniches make kilometres meaningless, and a villa six kilometres from the gate can sit forty minutes from it. Reading the coast in 30-minute drive bands, three centres of gravity emerge — Sophia Antipolis, Nice and Monaco — while Cannes and Grasse run on strong single schools: Mougins British for the Cannes basin, Institut Fénelon anchoring the back-country, Institut Stanislas in the centre of Cannes with its optional American dual diploma. Within thirty minutes of the International School of Monaco alone sit several billion euros of qualified villa transactions — the school run and the property market are the same map.

The bus map — pick-up corridors, commune by commune

A published bus stop widens a family’s map as effectively as a faster road — these are the corridors the schools themselves publish, read from the commune’s side.

Questions, answered

Questions families actually ask

Which international schools serve the Cannes and Mougins area?

Mougins British International School carries the full international continuum (ages 3–18, British curriculum to A-levels) for the Cannes basin; Institut Stanislas in central Cannes offers a French track with an optional American High School Diploma from 3e; EIB Pégomas covers bilingual primary years; Institut Fénelon in Grasse anchors collège and lycée for the back-country. Verified on each school's official pages, July 2026.

Where do families live for the Mouratoglou school?

Mouratoglou International School sits on the Sophia Antipolis plateau in Biot. Its 15-minute drive band covers most of Valbonne and Biot and reaches eastern Mougins and Antibes; the 30-minute band spans seventeen communes. Boarding on campus removes the daily-commute constraint entirely — several families of this office relocated specifically for a place there.

What does schooling cost on the French Riviera?

The published spectrum spans two orders of magnitude: from about €340–€2,100 a year at the under-contract Institut Stanislas and €1,500–€2,800 at Institut Fénelon, through €12,000–€26,000 at the international day schools (ISN, ICS, Mougins British), to €32,000–€41,000 at the British School of Monaco. The CIV, public and tuition-free, charges €2,500–€3,700 for its international sections. Rates from each school's published 2026–27 schedule.

Is there boarding on the Riviera?

Two serious valves: Mouratoglou International School (full boarding, ages 11–18, sport-study timetable) and the CIV's lycée international in Valbonne (boarding under eligibility rules — one of France's few public international boarding options). Institut Stanislas boards post-bac préparatoire students only. Beyond the hour — Saint-Tropez, the ski towns — boarding is the working answer.

Which areas reach the most schools within 15 minutes?

The Grasse back-country, measured by its own perimeter, reaches nine register campuses within a 15-minute drive — its boundary contains the Valbonne–Biot plateau, so Sophia's cluster sits inside it. Nice and Monaco form the other two concentrations; Théoule and the Esterel reach none inside 15 minutes and five within 30.

Which schools run a school bus from Cannes, Nice or Monaco?

From Cannes, Valbonne and Vence, the International School of Nice runs a private bus corridor with late buses. From Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet and Saint-Laurent-du-Var, EIB Nice publishes school-bus coverage reaching the Promenade and central Nice. From Monaco there are three published options: ISN's private bus (Fontvieille and Grimaldi stops), the ABC schools' Monaco–Nice morning line, and IS Monaco's dedicated CAM service with the annual pass included. Stop sheets and seats are confirmed with each school; verified on official transport pages, July 2026.

How reliable are the drive-time bands?

They are road-network estimates in free-flowing traffic — honest for comparing areas, not a promise about the 8am run. Before any address decision, this office validates the actual school-run at peak hour from the exact gate and confirms bus stop sheets and seat policies with the school.
